Asteroid 2012 DA14 approaching from the south as it passes through the Earth-moon system. The 150-foot object will pass within 17,000 miles of the Earth.
The asteroid was too small to see with the naked eye even at its closest approach around 2:25 p.m. EST, over the Indian Ocean near Sumatra.
